Transforming cacao growers into emerging economies powered by blockchain technology.

Choco4Peace’s sustainable trade platform directly connects cacao buyers to cacao growers across Colombia. We train and invest in coca communities, promoting socio-economic and environmental impact. Choco4Peace is an innovative business model that supports the construction of peace, through an integrated vertical value-chain in the sector of cacao.

How does it work?

Choco4Peace utilizes smart-contract blockchain technology with a decentralized inclusive economic ecosystem that aggregates cacao growers with stakeholders from the industry. In the ecosystem, these stakeholders provide capacity building, finance, insurance, technology and certification services to cocoa growers, allowing to mitigate risk, build trust, transparency, and a solid traceability system, while also reducing time and cost.

The technology is also implemented in Choco4Peace’s sustainable trade channels that directly connects cacao Buyers and cacao “fino aroma” Growers, who used to cultivate Coca, allowing to trace the cacao origins and its socio-economic and environmental impact.

Chocolate de paz – Trailer

A film by Gwen Burnyeat and Pablo Mejía Trujillo about the Peace Community of San José de Apartadó.

Chocolate of Peace depicts the Peace Community of San José de Apartadó’s experiences of resistance, via a journey through their processes of organic chocolate production. From the seed to the product, the cacao is the narrative thread that takes us through the Community’s stories of violence and resilience, and their fight to remain neutral in the face of the Colombian armed conflict.

This film offers a panorama of hope, proof that despite great difficulties it is possible to sow peace through human and economic relationships. It invites us to rethink our relationship with food, to value the efforts of those who produce it, and to build bridges between the victims of the armed conflict and other sectors of global civil society.
